Remarks: "Bay State Beer. Circa: Mid 1936. This National Can Company, 12 ounce container, lists Patents Pending and was filled by Commonwealth Brewing Corporation of Springfield, Massachusetts. Notice there is no listing of a Massachusetts State permit number below "Cool Before Serving" on either side panels. Note also, the underlined phrase "Result: A True Bay State Beer", printed within the text of the right side panel, and the IRS permit number "Permit No. U-121", printed within the text of the left side panel. This variation has a yellow, green, and black enamel finish. Production of this short lived container was quickly halted and similar cans were reprinted to add the Massachusetts State permit number. Most of these style cans were returned to the canning company and destroyed with only a small quantity actually being filled. This Grade 2 example was found inside the brewery rafters in the early 1950s, is the only example known to the author, and is believed to be unique. Rarity Rating: R-10."
