Remarks: "Bay State Ale. Circa: Late 1937 - Mid 1938. This National Can Corporation, 12 ounce container, lists Patents Pending was filled by Commonwealth Brewing Corporation of Springfield, Massachusetts. This is a similar package design as seen on the previous page (USBC-OI 77) with, however; a few significant changes. Notice the small box, at the bottom of the left side panel, which contains the trademark, Can Corp., New York and patent information. The IRS permit number and the New York State license number are no longer printed on the container. This variation maintains the green metallic and black enamel finish, but has reverted to the solid gray enamel throughout the label. This Grade 1- example is the best of only twenty five or so examples known to the author, and a quality, Grade 1 example may not exist. Rarity Rating: R-6." Reprinted with permission from Kevin C.
